Monorail Music is an independent record shop on King Street in Glasgow's Merchant City, open since December 2002 after a three-year search for the right premises, which turned out to be a former Mexican restaurant in Kings Court. It was set up to be a community shop as much as a retail one, with close ties to Optimo, Chemikal Underground, Teenage Fanclub, Belle & Sebastian and Mogwai, and it sits next door to its friends at Mono. The racks lean towards independent music, with deep sections for Scottish music, jazz, experimental, reggae, African and Japanese music, plus film and DVDs and its own film club.
