Jumbo Records is Leeds' oldest independent record shop and has been in the city centre since 1971. Hunter Smith opened it in a tiny unit at the top of the Queens Arcade, selling the reggae and soul he played with his Jumbo mobile disco, and Isaac Hayes' Black Moses was its first big seller. Nick Fraser and Justinia Lewis bought the shop in 2014, and in 2017 Jumbo moved to a bigger unit in the Merrion Centre, with seating and a small stage for in-stores. It now covers just about every genre, alongside books, magazines, hi-fi and gig tickets, and has had everyone from Billy Bragg to English Teacher playing in the shop.
